Haute Route Day 7: Vignettes Hut to Zermatt Our last day is the longest day of the trip and provides a spectacular finish to our traverse. Our routecards describe the main route over the famous Fenetre d'Arpette at 2,665m 8,743ft , and also the alternative route via the alpage of Bovine at 1,987m 6,519m. This day generally takes about 5-6 hours and is one of the more physical days of the trip. Again we are at just under 3,000m 9,843ft in altitude.

With good weather the Europaweg section allows the perfect view down into Zermatt, and up to the Matterhorn, as you traverse the rocky hillsides high above the Mattertal. Haute Route Day 6: Dix Hut to Vignettes Hut This day starts with a traverse down and out onto the Cheilon Glacier, which brings us under the impressive North Face of Mont Blanc de Chelion. Suddenly there was access to wild terrain and pure, untouched lines, far from the bustling resorts and the hunt for a few square meters of leftover powder. The route is usually skied between early March and late April, passing from hut to hut while staying in high mountain scenery the vast majority of the way. As we understand it the Travel Select Plan with the added adventure pak is probably what most of our customers will need. It is nice and early in the European cycling season, so presents an excellent opportunity to start as you mean to go on. We're also pleased to book shorter or longer sub-sections of the route according to your available dates. It is also possibly the toughest of them all. The Rosablanche is the first of a series of optional summits that we encounter on our trip. We give you here a description of the two most common routes. The cabane has beds for 109 and is known for serving up delicious hearty meals and cool tunes for their guests to enjoy. Similar to Hôtel Weisshorn, the main challenge with including Cabane Bella Tola in your hiking itinerary is what you decide to do the following day. Dropping down the far side, the path is steeper but this stage remains a moderate introduction to the Haute Route's theme of crossing cols. The route follows a combination of bitumen and dirt roads before reaching Le Chable and starting the climb up to Verbier and Les Ruinettes or choosing to skip these sections by taking a sneaky. In most of the huts we are given dormitory style lodging. It also makes a good start for a trip to the Colorado Trail Friends Yurt. If starting from Grimentz, various routes are described: back up to Lac de Moiry to regain the normal path, direct to Zinal via the forests, or onwards via different routes to St Luc and Hotel Weisshorn. Make sure you get an early start as there is a lot of altitude to be gained. Such mountainous situations come consistently along the Haute Route. This community-driven site is maintained by Eric Schlange and a team of Zwift enthusiasts. It is truly a special experience to sit in the comfort of the dining room and watch dusk fall on the glacier as you catch up with fellow hikers over dinner, then see the first light breaking on it as you re-fuel at breakfast.
