A timber configuration rests on a reinforced-concrete base of the same dimension that is half buried so that only its upper glazed perimeter is visible from the outside. Guided by her interest in socio-political topics, formal-aesthetic issues and artistic materials, Ingvild Goetz has been collecting the work of women artists consistently over the years. Other featured artists are Geta Brătescu, Tracey Emin, Aneta Grzeszykowska, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Yayoi Kusama, Ulrike Ottinger, Ulrike Rosenbach and Rosemarie Trockel. In the 1990s, techno clubs, which originated as sites of an alternative lifestyle culture, increasingly developed into a mass phenomenon, the parties becoming important social events in large cities such as Berlin and London. Through their glazing selection, the project has a dramatic evening essence, as the upper glowing galleries seem to hover over the illuminated ground level. The Sammlung Goetz Goetz Collection in Munich is a private museum featuring the contemporary art collection of Ingvild Goetz. Brainwashed is dedicated to the pop cultural phenomenon of the mainstream, which reached its climax in the early 2000s. More about the museum, including more photos, after the break.
